Taking a Break From This Blog

Welp, I'm kinda feeling bad about not updating this blog as much as I think I should. I spend a lot of time on Twitter and Facebook putting up my short takes, etc. But I've always tried to run my blog under the "Jim Rome" rule. "Have a take and don't suck." So I always try to put something thought-out and meaningful on here. Most of it has been poker, but I've gotten into other areas like fitness, healthy eating, and smartphones.

I could set my blog up to scrape news sites and post relevant stories, but there's a ton of blogs that do that and most of them kinda suck. I've even tried to run some banner ads that might make me a little money if clicked. But after 3 years, I was informed by one banner service that I had to remove them since I talk about gambling on here. Oh well.

So considering my blog neglect issues, my expanding subject matter, and my waining interest in posting, I think I'll take a break for a little while and take some time to decide what I want to do with my blog. Not saying I will definitely shut down, but that is one of many options I will consider.

In the meantime, please feel free to follow me on Twitter. I'm on there almost every day and I like it: http://twitter.com/Stick66 Cheers.

It seems like you had AdSense running for a while before they contacted you.

I'm curious... did you receive any payments before they sent you a notice?

By the way, yous till have a link unit running in between posts.

There are other options advertising options for poker blogs. I never used adsense on a poker site so I don't know how it compares but the cpc was a bit less than other sites with adsense. It's better than nothing though.

Here are the results of my poker blog advertising experiment.

If your adsense account wasn't disabled have you considered creating a separate health/fithness and smartphone blog and moving those posts there?

That way you can continue to gain revenue from that content since AdSense would be allowed on those sites.

Good stuff, Micro. Yeah, I had AdSense running for 3 years. In 2007, they didn't have as many restrictions and they all just caught up to me recently.
I'm guessing the link ads in between posts are OK since they generate as sometimes gambling or Vegas related on their own.
Nope, no payments. I think in 3 years I only racked up $11 or so and they don't pay out until I hit $50.
I've thought about separate blogs, but I don't think I have it in me to be diligent enough to fill ONE blog, let alone THREE.
Thanks for the feedback. Cheers.

Oh and thanks for the alt ad link. I'll check it out when I decide what to do here.

The minimum payout for adsense is $100. At your rate it's going to take 27 more years to reach the payout limit.

Just take all adsense units off your blog to be safe. You're not really making anything from it.

If you lose your adsense account you might not ever get it back. It doesn't sound like it's worth the risk.

You might come up with a site in the future that you'd wish to have adsense on but cant.

Creating separate blogs for different topics is usually a good idea. When the content is focussed search traffic tends to be better and adsense ads are better targeted which increase CTR.

Since you're using blogger it's easy to create multiple blogs. From the dashboard just click the add a blog button or something like that. Then whenever you feel like writing something log in, pick a blog, write a post.

Blogs can be hit or miss and picking the right type of advertising is important. Sometimes affiliate links like amazon are better especially for sites that have low but well targeted traffic.
